AirAsia PH Aims to Add More Digital Payment Options
AirAsia PH eyes to provide more digital payment options for travelers by tapping more e-wallet providers.
This comes as the airline acknowledges the continued boom of digitalization in the Philippines amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
AirAsia PH recently partnered with fast-growing digital wallet GCash for future addtional online payment options for travelers.
AirAsia Philippines Chief Finance Officer Ray Berja said that GCash will offer AirAsia guests a flexible and cashless payment option.
“We are pleased to be partnering with GCash, the country’s leading e-wallet to provide flexible and cashless options to our guests, and look forward to building this partnership as airasia continues to embark on its journey to becoming more than just an airline. This is an added convenience that makes the airasia super app even more appealing to the consumer as the fastest growing super app in Asean,” he said.
With the partnership, AirAsia passengers will be able to book their flights, and pay for other other additions in ther flight such as meals and additional baggage using GCash.
Berja also added that promos and other offers will be made available to GCash users.
During the height of the pandemic when most of the country was on lockdown, the use of digital payment options experienced a boom, with digital wallets reporting massive growth in registrations and transactions.
Last 2020, GCash reported that over 33 million users registered in the platform, which is 65 percent higher than the 20 million users that registered with the digital wallet in 2019.
GCash also reported that their transaction value hit over PHP1 trillion, exceeded its targets last year. Transactions peaked at a PHP7.5 billion daily gross transaction value.
The digital wallet provider also experienced massive growth in daily transactions, with more than 6 million transactions being done daily. (GFB)
