Donnie can look forward to surpassing Gabriel “Flash” Elorde’s record as having the longest reigning world champion for seven years and three months. Velarde, who vowed to score a knockout, just couldn’t take it anymore after sustaining a nasty cut in his eyebrow. Velarde quit in the eight round.
