Afternoon Classes Suspended in Zamboanga City Due to Bad Weather
(PNA) -– Mayor Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar has suspended effective Tuesday afternoon classes from kindergarten up to high school levels due to inclement weather.
In a text advisory sent to Philippines News Agency, Mayor Salazar said that the suspension of classes cover both public and private schools.
Salazar said her order to suspend classes is in pursuant to Executive Order 66 issued by President Benigno Simeon Aquino III dated Jan. 9, 2012 on localize cancellation/suspension of classes and work in government offices.
The mayor suspended the classes upon the recommendation of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) headed by Dr. Elmeir Apolinario and in coordination with the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
PAGASA said the presence of Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) will continue to bring heavy rains over Mindanao on Tuesday.
The ITCZ, which is the thick clouds coming from the south of Asia, is considered a breeding ground for low-pressure areas (LPAs) or potential cyclones.
Meanwhile, Salazar the declaration for the suspension of classes in the college level will be at the discretion of the school heads. (PNA) FFC/RCK/TPGJR
