Adobe has officially launched Photoshop for iPhone, bringing their popular photo manipulation tool on the palm of mobile users. The company announced the rollout on Tuesday, with an Android version set to follow later this year.

This comes as the newly released app seeks to bring several core Photoshop features to smartphones, including layering, masking, and AI-powered tools, all optimized for smaller screens. Users can access a free version with essential tools, while a USD7.99 monthly subscription unlocks premium features and Photoshop on the web.

Current Photoshop subscribers will automatically have access to the mobile version at no additional cost.

According to Adobe, the decision to bring Photoshop to mobile was driven by the growing demand for high-quality editing tools among younger, mobile-first creators.

“We spent a lot of time talking to creatives and creators, especially the new generation of creators who are very comfortable with phones,” said Shambhavi Kadam, senior director of product management at Adobe Photoshop. “We took that feedback and built it into the product to make sure that it worked really well for these users.”

The free version of Photoshop for iPhone includes key tools such as selections, layers, and AI-driven features powered by Adobe Firefly, including Generative Fill. Free users can also access removal tools like Spot Healing Brush and blend images using core Photoshop tools.

Moreover, those who opt for the paid subscription gain access to additional AI-powered features, including Generate Similar and Reference Image. Premium users also get more than 20,000 fonts, Content-Aware Fill, and the Object Select tool, which allows for precise selections and targeted adjustments.

Adobe is positioning the app as a competitor to popular mobile editing platforms like Snapseed, Picsart, and Canva. “By launching Photoshop for iPhone, we’re not only expanding our ecosystem, but we’re also welcoming a new wave of creators who rely on their mobile devices for their creative workflow,” Kadam said.

The app is now available worldwide on the Apple App Store. Adobe has not yet provided a specific release date for the Android version but confirmed it will be launching later this year. (GFB)
