ACT Supports HB 245 Seeking Salary Increase
Hundreds of public school teachers who are union members are set to gather Monday at the Consolacion covered court to show full support to House Bill 245.
Regional President Antonia Maamo-Lim of the Alliance of Concerned Teachers Region 7 Union (ACT) defined House Bill (HB) 245 as a measure seeking for salary increase of public school teachers including the non-teaching staff.
Lim stressed in her email to this reporter, the said bill is now pending in congress after Malacañang shown its negative view against this.
Lim added their gathering at 2:00 PM at the Consolacion covered court is to show to Malacañang that all public school teachers are really in need for salary adjustment the reason why they are pushing for its approval .
Lim also explained that their gathering is a show of force against an earlier pronouncement made by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Florencio Abad who said there is “zero allocation” for teachers’ new salary adjustment on the 2015 national budget.
She said all ACT teachers were condemning Abad’s statement as this an apparent prosecution to the teachers’ constitutional right.
“They should probably examine the present salary standardization scheme for public school teachers which is way below and behind compared to those who are working in the private agencies”, she added.
Thus she said ACT is pushing for the enactment of House Bill 245 adding that the result of the gathering maybe beneficial to all concerned ACT teachers nationwide.
