AboitizPower Distribution Utilities Linemen Showcase Skills in 2018 Rodeolympics
A total of 35 linemen from the AboitizPower Distribution Utilities (AP DU) showcased their skills and proficiency in lineman works during the AP DU Rodeolympics 2018 held at the VECO Development Academy in Sirao, Cebu City on July 15, 2018.
AP DU is composed of the Visayan Electric Company (VECO), Davao Light and Power Company (DLPC), Cotabato Light and Power Company (CLPC), as well as the EnerZones (Subic EnerZone, Mactan EnerZone, Balamban EnerZone, Lima EnerZone and Malvar EnerZone).
AP DU EVP and COO Jaime Jose Aboitiz told participants and guests that although the Rodeolympics is a competition, the participants should remember that it is a friendly competition where they can learn from one another and have fun at the same time.
“We are AP DU, we are 1AP,” Aboitiz said.
The executive also acknowledged the role of linemen in the different distribution utilities and their contribution to the business and to the community.
The Rodeolympics, which is on its second year, was divided into two segments – the group challenge and the individual challenge. The group challenge is composed of six stages wherein participants are expected to open lateral fuse cutouts, install grounding and replace wooden cross-arms, and replacement of transformer fuse, among others. The individual challenge features the Hurtman’s Rescue wherein participants are expected to show skill and precision in saving an electrocuted lineman.
After the half-day event, the RED team finished first place, the BLACK team bagged the second place, while the BLUE team won third place. (PR)
