The Aboitiz Foundation, the social development arm of the Aboitiz Group, recently turned over science and technical-vocational (tech-voc) facilities to Taguig Integrated School (TIS) and Taguig National High School (TNHS) as part of its commitment to develop science-based skills among young students and bring alternative learning to high school graduates.

Since 2013, the Foundation has already implemented various projects in these adopted schools in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd).

Now on its 3rd year of developing TNHS as tech-voc school, the school was supported with teacher training for Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) NCII certification, refurbishment of consumer electronics servicing workshop room equipped with reference books, materials, tools, and equipment, and the provision of a computer laboratory with 30 thin-client computer units. These took place at a ceremony last February 24.

The Foundation funded last year the refurbishment of three tech-voc workshop rooms for dressmaking, beauty care services (nail care) with wellness massage, and computer hardware servicing. Reference books, tools, and equipment were also donated. These projects were turned over last February 2015.

“We are blessed to have entities that are willing to share with us the blessings that were bestowed upon them. The facilities have helped a lot in the improvement of our students and teachers as well,” said TNHS Principal Santiago Alvis.

At TIS, where the Special Science Elementary School (SSES) Program is already being implemented from Grades 1-6, the Aboitiz Foundation turned over a newly-refurbished speech laboratory and special science classrooms equipped with multimedia equipment for teaching enhancement.

For the past two years of SSES implementation, Aboitiz has refurbished the school’s science and computer laboratories, donated microscopes, computers, science and story books, and refurbished three special science classrooms.

“Education has always been a key focus area of the Foundation ever since we began work helping people help themselves. We have invested the most in education because we firmly believe that education is a critical component to nation building, giving people new opportunities for growth and a better life,” said Aboitiz Foundation Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Augusto Carpio III.

Every year, the Foundation allocates more than half of its annual budget to perform various interventions in education. In partnership with DepEd, it continuously intensifies the development of SSES and tech-voc high schools, constructs Silid Pangarap kindergarten classrooms in collaboration with the Aklat, Gabay, Aruga Tungo sa Pag-angat at Pag-asa (AGAPP) Foundation, repairs and constructs regular classrooms, facilitates teacher skills trainings, and grants scholarships and financial assistance to deserving students.
