A Memorable Moment In My Life

Published

on

One of the tests I took during a job application was to make a short passage on a memorable moment of my life. That day I’ve thought long and hard.

A memorable moment in my life would have to be one from my childhood. It is one of the first few things I would remember and it is probably one of the few things I would carry until the last of my days. Every scene that comes to mind whenever I would try to recall my early years would deem to be fluid and surreal. Despite the sunny weather and apparent vivid array of colors the scene provided before my eyes, all I could remember was a few shades of blue. It was a time when you would discover the simple joys life had to offer, it was the time when the thought of sleeping and going home was the last thing you would want. I stood before the huge pool, just like a traveler would come to a new land once he got off a plane. There, in the middle of the sea of a mixture of chlorine and urine were my cousins and acquaintances who seemed to act like a series of riots happening simultaneously. I was always denied of privileges such as going outside to play or a candy bar that would cost a few cents. My mother at the scene was busy conversing with other relatives and friends. Have you ever heard of the favorite quote used by teeny boppers in America? “YOLO!”,  which means “You Only Live Once.” That moment I had was my first “YOLO” moment. I slowly submerged myself and slowly went forward towards the riot. “Come on!” , shouted the other kids. Moments later I let out a yelp in fear and realized I was drowning. Time goes by slowly under water, and those few seconds were the longest in my entire life. Immersed in shades of blue I saw a gate emanating with light and right there, I’ve come to terms with the fact that I was never going to grow old. As acceptance lifted me up, I realized hands were grasping mine as I was elevated out of the water. Being a child I couldn’t come up with a moral to this story but I come up with a new lesson every time I get a chance to remember that day. I’ll share with you my thought from today: The world is an ocean of possibilities; it’s fun to experience the excitement and the thrill. It’s one of the things that make you feel alive. I may or may not have lived more than once, but life itself has an unimaginable price tag. Tread lightly.
