A 5.2 Magnitude Earthquake Rocks Batangas
A magnitude 5.2 earthquake shook Batangas and other parts of Luzon on 12:25:54 PM, Tuesday, July 3.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the origin of the 5.2 magnitude earthquake was located at 13.93°N, 120.42°E – 028 km S 52° W of Nasugbu, Batangas, at a depth of 119 kilometers. The origin of the earthquake was tectonic.
Areas Affected by the Earthquake
Intensity 4 was felt in Nasugbu, Batangas; Lubang & Abra de Ilog, Occidental Mindoro
Intensity 3 was felt in Balayan, Tuy, Talisay, and Calatagan, Batangas; Quezon City; Clark, Pampanga; Mandaluyong City; Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro; Looc and Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro; Tanza & Maragondon, Cavite; Makati City; Pasay City; Tagaytay City.
Intensity 2 was also felt in Manila City; Plaridel, Obando & Malolos, Bulacan; Parañaque City.
Instrumental Intensities were also recorded by PHIVOLCS:
- Intensity 3 was felt in Malolos, Bulacan; Calatagan, Batangas; Tagaytay City.
- Intensity 2 was felt in Marikina City; Navotas City; San Ildefonso, Bulacan; Talisay, Batangas.
- Intensity I was also felt in Las Pinas City; Pasig City; Quezon City; Bacoor Cavite; Cabanatuan City; Guagua, Pampanga.
PHIVOLCS is not expecting damages from the earthquake but will be expecting aftershocks.
Aftershock
At 04:27:53 PM on the same day, a magnitude 2.1 earthquake occurred at 13.75°N, 120.55°E – 013 km S 45° West of Calatagan, Batangas at a depth of 120 kilometers. The origin of the earthquake was tectonic. (Aljun S. Cainghog)
