Opposition Supports New Administrator, Lawyer
It seems that the appointment of the two department heads in Talisay City obtains the support of the opposition bloc. This after Councilor Edward Alesna has sponsored a proposal asking for the council’s concurrence.
Alesna, in his proposal, included City Attorney Alfredo Sipalay and City Administrator John Yre S. De Los Reyes as the first two appointments that he has sponsored for the council’s approval.
There are several other new appointments but Alesna, who is with the opposition camp, has chosen to pick Delos Reyes, who is apparently the mayor’s son, and Sipalay, best friend of Vice Mayor Romeo Villarante.
On Tuesday’s regular session, the council will either approve or disapprove the appointment, but a reliable source said that if an opposition councilor authors the proposal, it is good as approved already. Nine out of 12 councilors are with the opposition.
Meanwhile, there are reports that some appointments of Mayor Johnny delos Reyes may not get the council’s nod. Delos Reyes has made his own daughter-in-law, Mayet delos Reyes as the city’s human resource head while some other relatives are placed to higher posts.
But the same source said that if De los Reyes can give a good bargain like increasing the job order quota for the opposition councilors, he will not have problems with their concurrence. The opposition councilors are given five job order workers each, but Delos Reyes has reportedly promised to make it 50.
