Google+ Faces Second Data Leak, Platform to Shut Down Earlier

Google+ will be shut down earlier than expected after it suffered another data leak exposing information of over 50 million users.

Google decided to shut down the consumer version of Google+ after it suffered the first data leak and scheduled to shut it down on April 2019 instead of August 2019 after the data leak happened again.

The leak happened due to a bugthe API of Google+ that grants the application access to read certain information in the user’s profile even though the account is set to private.

Google announced that the information of 52.2 million users were not used maliciously.

Despite the announcement of Google to shut down Google+ the company still plans to continue Google+ for companies that are subscribed to their G Suite service.
