Cagayan Is Now Under “State of Calamity”
The whole province is now under “state of calamity” following the damages brought by typhoon “Ompong”.
Governor Manuel Mamba said the local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (LDRRMCs) are still accounting the exact number of damaged properities.
On agriculture, the governor reported P4.6 billion worth of damages on crops and fisheries. A total of 24, 290 farmers were heavily affected and 157,950 hectares farm land were damaged.
“Price freeze is already in effect as we declared state of calamity. So we urged consumers to report any surge in the prices of goods, especially basic necessities, prime commodiries, and construction materials,” Mamba said.
He also said they are now assessing the extent of rehabilitation efforts needed to immediately bring back the normal situation in the whole province.
Currently, the governor said, distribution of relief goods to affected families is being done . He also ordered the allocation of additional P104 million to be utilized for the rehabilitation program.
As of now, there was one confirmed casualty from Penablanca town while two others from Iguig town are yet to be confirmed.
On the other hand, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) was able to restore the 69kv line, reenergizing parts of Cagayan and Kalinga areas while Cagayan Electric Cooperative I (Cagelco I) was able to re-energize the regional government center and conducting an on-going assessment of lines in other areas of southern Cagayan.
