Talisay To Donate Joavan’s Getaway Car to Police
Talisay City Hall is planning to give the city-owned car once used by Joavan Fernandez as a getaway vehicle when he bolted from jail last May.
City lawyer Alfredo Sipalay said they already sent a letter request to the court, where Joavan’s case is assigned, asking it to release the said car. Sipalay said if the court would grant their request, they would turn over the Mitsubishi Adventure (SGT 488) to the Talisay City Police. Sipalay said it was Mayor Johnny delos Reyes’ idea after seeing that the police station lacks patrol cars.
“If the court would grant our request, we will give it to them,” said Sipalay.
Joavan is the adopted son of former Talisay City mayor and now City Councilor Socrates Fernandez. At the time when he used the vehicle, Fernandez was still the mayor. Joavan was detained at the police substation, just two floors down from the mayor’s office, for allegedly shooting a carshop worker. He was able to leave his cell after he reportedly told his jailer that he wanted to talk to his wife and children outside. He, however, did not come back, and was reportedly seen driving the Mitsubishi Adventure to escape.
