Davide to BNS: You Are Our Local Heroes
Gov. Hilario P. Davide III lauded more than 1,000 Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) for their vital work in making sure health and social services would reach the remote areas in the province during their annual gathering on Friday at the Cebu Coliseum.
“Kamo maoy usa sa atong mga local community heroes,” Davide told at least 1,100 nutrition scholars from 51 local government units, who attended the 6th BNS Summit.
Davide said the face of his development agenda is health and social services and BNS are playing an important role in ensuring every Cebuano receives adequate basic services in the community.
“You are one of the frontliners in the delivery of basic health services in our local communities,” he said. “Allow me to take this opportunity to thank all of you.”
Davide noted that the most important job of the BNS is to educate families on how to achieve and maintain the well-being of their children through proper nutrition.
“Through this summit, may you learn new strategies and techniques to encourage every Cebuano household to prioritize health in their families especially the children,” Davide said.
The summit held technical sessions to enhance the BNS knowledge on key areas of their work, including topics on roles and functions of BNS, child growth assessment and stress management at work.
One of the highlights in the event was the awarding of the Most Outstanding BNS in the Province to Cleofe Sinadjan of BarangayMaño, San Remigio.
Sinadjan thanked the nutrition scholars for their sacrifices and hope that they would continue to render services to the people.
The event was also graced by Provincial Health Office chief Dr. Rene Catan and some health officials. (CEBU PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT)
