NNC-7 Holds Food Gardening Congress
The National Nutrition Council Region VII (NNC-7) in partnership with ABS-CBN-DZMM orchestrated the Food Gardening Congress that took place at Robinsons Galleria, Cebu.
In line with and as part of the 44th Nutrition Month’s national campaign, the congress aims to: (1) enhance the Filipinos’ nutritional status via enhanced food access, (2) encourage food garden development in families and communities, and (3) mobilize varied stakeholders to provide a healthy environment for sustainable food gardens. All this is aptly condensed under the theme “ugaliing magtanim, sapat na nutrisyon aanihin!” (Make a habit of gardening to harvest proper nutrition.)
The Regional Plan of Action for Nutrition (RPAN) 2017-2022 also launched during the congress. The Department of Health (DOH) presented its enabling programs, strategic thrusts, and nutrition-sensitive and nutrition-specific programs.
Among others, the congress involved other notable events including an opening program, multiple exhibits, and technical sessions and talks regarding nutrition and food gardening technologies. Distinguished speakers tackled topics such as planting medium preparations and planting material sourcing, with visual aids and live demonstration.
Booths from the Department of Agriculture (DOA), Hydrofarm Corp. (Hydrophonics), Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI), and other supporting organizations littered the venue, lending relevant infographics and brochures to the packed audience.
The congress offered seeds and multiple gardening tools on site as well.
