Journey’s Worth

Published

on

A certain someone, Glenn Beck, wisely said that, “Sometimes the hardest part of the journey is believing you’re worthy of the trip.”

Like the average person, you probably look to others to define your self-worth and importance in the world. But, your sense of worth is not supposed to be measured against another’s - them and you are on completely different planes of existence with completely different life forces, circumstances, and capabilities. If they have their own thing, then so do you.

You are worthy.

Thus, take the time to understand yourself.

See past the material and surface measurements of money, looks, status, and the comparing of life against life. These things can never sufficiently measure the brilliance of your intrinsic worth; they are iceberg tips at best. Instead, look deeper within yourself and understand what is inside you: your truest strengths, weaknesses, dreams, nightmares, abilities, disabilities, bravery, and fears.

This introspective journey can be painfully excruciating, but it is essentially the first step to finding yourself and overcoming the feeling of worthlessness; this will be worth the internal struggle. Although others will most likely interfere, never allow the eyes of others to rake through your life and devalue you like a short-sighted god figure. Your own personal worth is defined by you and not by outside forces that can never see far enough into your being, let alone understand it.

You are worthy.

Thus, accept who you are.

Do not be dazzled by lies, fantasies, and illusions. Acknowledge all the good, all the bad, and all the ugly qualities that you possess for these are fundamental parts of who you are. Self-worth is not built out of denial, delusion, and ignorance; it is built when you accept the real and authentic you. Acceptance is also what allows you to change some of these qualities in a healthier, more wholesome manner.

You are worthy.

Thus, love yourself.

Stamp that into the folds of your foggy mind and the valves of your delicate heart. Tattoo that into your bruised, chapped, or scarred skin. Let it seep through the blood circulating within a body that is imperfect but all the more… real – and lovable.

Never again to allowing the success of other people to dictate your personal value and generate self-hatred. Rather than changing yourself in drastic measures as per society’s implicit and explicit demands, find value in your own being.

Understand, accept, and love yourself.

You are more than worthy of the journey.
