Davao City to Expand into a Police District
The Davao Police Police Office (DCPO) will soon become a police district with an additional deployment of 500 new cops.
During a courtesy call last week to Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, Philippine National Police chief Director-General Oscar Albayalde said he will deploy 500 more policemen and create two more police stations in Davao City.
The country’s top cop bared he will approve a request of the city to expand the current DCPO into a district office.
“Davao is much bigger than Quezon City and other cities in Metro Manila, it is just right to have a District Police here to cope with the growing need for police personnel,” Albayalde said.
“One of the concerns that I discussed with General Albayalde is the need of the city to expand its police personnel, especially that more people have visited the city and that our population is growing as well,” Mayor Duterte-Carpio said.
At present the current personnel of the DCPO is 1,890 policemen. The population of Davao City is around 1.6 million people, to achieve the ideal policeman-to-population ratio of 1 cop to 500 people, the DCPO would need at least 3,500 cops. (RGA/PIA-Davao)
