Sugat Kabanhawan 2018 Ritual Showdown Winners
Minglanilla, Cebu — As the highly successful and province-renowned Sugat Kabanhawan Festival 2018 reached its conclusion at the Minglanilla Sports Complex & Oval in the evening of April 1, 2018, festival winners of the socio-religious annual event were announced.
Minglanilla National Science Highschool won as first place in the Sugat Kabanhawan 2018 Ritual Showdown, the science high school also won 2nd Runner up in the Street Dancing Competition, and 1st runner up in Carrosa. Tulay National Highschool won 2nd place for the Ritual Showdown, followed by Camp 7 National High School for 3rd place, Tubod National High School in 4th place, and Tungkop National High School in 5th place.
The awards were given out in the presence of of Minglanilla Mayor Elanito Pena and Minglanilla Vice Mayor Robert John Selma along with 1st District Congressman Samsam Gullas, and Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale, 1st District Board Member Yolly Daan.

In its devotion to the celebration of Christ’s resurrection, the municipality of Minglanilla has long held the distinction of being the “Sugat Capital of the South”.
Annually held every Easter Sunday, the occasion primarily focuses on the re‑enactment of the meeting of the Risen Christ and the Sorrowful Mother – followed by a string of activities and events scheduled to take place throughout the day. As one of the biggest annually celebrated occasions of the municipality, the festival takes a direct translation in celebrating Christ’s resurrection, with street dancing, a wide assortment of day games, and entertainment features. Essentially a socio-religious event, celebrations have played the role of host to a diverse range of organized contests, competitions, and games, including a carabao race, a burda-making contest (burda = embroidery), and a mud volleyball tournament.
