Security Preparations for 2018 Sinulog ‘85% Ready’
Cebu City Councilor Dave Tumulak said they are 85 percent ready in terms of security preparations for this year’s Sinulog Festival.
“All are in place in terms of security,” said Tumulak who sits as chairperson of the Sinulog Executive Committee, during a press conference held Monday at the Cebu City Mayor’s Office.
Although he did not divulge the total number of security forces deployed for the festival for security reasons, Tumulak said the city government has tapped several sectors to help act as force multipliers such as habal-habal drivers, Angkas drivers, vendors, and barangay tanods.
“The Muslim community and other religious groups have also signified their support in terms of public safety,” added Tumulak.
The city government also tapped the assistance of shipping and bus companies as well as the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), Coast Guard, and the Bantay Dagat.
In the same press conference, Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña said this year’s celebration will be the “strictest Sinulog” as he reminded the public to help authorities in securing the peace and order during the festival.
Parties and the sale of liquor have been banned within 300 meters of the Sinulog parade route. (rmn/PIA7-Cebu)
