Western Visayas Crime Volume Drops by 13.69 Percent
The total crime volume in Western Visayas decreased by 13.69 percent in the first three quarters of 2017, according to the Police Regional Office (PRO)-6.
In a media interview, PRO-6 Spokesperson Superintendent Gilbert Gorero said that PRO-6 recorded 35,732 crime incidents from January to September 2017, which is lower than the 41,398 crimes recorded in the same period last year.
Gorero said that the incidents recorded for the eight “focus crimes”, which include murder, homicide, physical injuries, rape, robbery, theft, car-napping, and motor-napping, were decreasing.
He emphasized that the eight “focus crimes” refer to crimes against persons and properties that often affect the daily activities of the people in the community.
PRO-6 recorded 9,388 incidents involving the eight focus crimes from January to September. The figure is lower by 12.85 percent compared to the 10,772 incidents recorded for the same period in 2016.
Of the eight focus crimes, six of these declined. The number of murder incidents decreased by 4.94 percent; homicide decreased by 16.77 percent; robbery by 17.99 percent; theft by 26.13 percent; carnapping by 64.86 percent; and motor-napping by 23.87 percent.
Meanwhile, PRO-6 reported that rape incidents increased by 2.65 percent and physical injuries by 0.46 percent.
Gorero said Western Visayas continues to be generally peaceful. (JCM/LTP/PIA-Iloilo)
