Big Moon Seen Around the World Over Weekend
Known as the Perigee moon, the big moon or ‘super’ moon that was seen around the world last weekend, occurs every 14 full moons. It happens when the oval orbit of the earth’s satellite brings it 28,000 miles closer than usual.
The “supermoon” was seen above Tynemouth Priory near Newcastle, behind New York’s Statue of Liberty, over a monument in Hackensack, New Jersey, and even behind a helicopter used in 60s Batman shows at a fair.
Tourists also gazed in awe past the temple of Poseidon, as it loomed large over the site 40 miles east of Athens on Saturday night.
The world watched it in wonder.
