Cayetano on Plot to ‘Steal’ Vice Presidency: Leave President Duterte Out of This
Senator Alan Peter Cayetano on Monday urged critics of President Rodrigo Duterte to leave him out of rumors that there is a plot to help former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. “steal” the vice presidency from Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo.
“If there is a feud between Vice Presidentiables, they shouldn’t involve the President,” Cayetano told reporters in an interview.
Cayetano, a staunch supporter and runningmate of President Duterte during this year’s election, said that although it was obvious that Marcos “wanted to be Vice President”, he firmly believed that Robredo won the May elections.
“It’s not a matter of what I think, it’s a matter of who really won. And right now, the presumption is that Leni Robredo won,” he noted.
He pointed out that for there to be a plot, the Presidential Electoral Tribunal should also be involved in the plot to steal Robredo of her seat. Marcos is protesting Robredo’s proclamation in the tribunal.
“Unless the Presidential Electrical Tribunal says otherwise, then she (Robredo) is Vice President. Is it correct for them to be vigilant? Yes. But is it fair to involve the admin? It’s not,” the senator said.
“I know for a fact that the admin is not moving one way or the other because the election is over. There’s too many things that are too urgent for us to focus on politics,” he added. (PNA)LGI/ANP
