Good Food, Great Memories at Sugbufe
Delightfully Cebuano! These are two words that best describe the commencement for Sugbufe’s grand opening that took place last September 10, 2016 at M. Logarta St. Subangdaku, Mandaue City.
The event started off with the unravelling of intertwined hablon cloths that symbolize the interconnection and unity of wisdom and compassion. This was Sugbufé’s own version of the ribbon cutting ceremony. As it is one of the restaurant’s supported advocacies, the hablon cloth represented the Cebuano culture, heritage and the importance of showing appreciation to local produce.
With its aspiration to be a restaurant that embodies the Cebuano culture, local songs were played by Jeff Escarda and the Band, a contemporary Christian band, while guests enjoyed the authentic Filipino dishes like Lenggua Estofada, Calderetang Kambing, Callos, and Balbacua to name a few. A turn over ceremony for the hearing impaired women of Mandaue City was also done by Ms. Ella Saguin and Mandaue City’s Vice Mayor Carlo Fortuna to show support to the women’s livelihood and vocational programs.
The Wonggoys, a local Pop and Folk Rock band, took centre stage and played some of their original songs. To cap off the night, a fashion show by Dexter Alazas, one of Cebu’s top fashion designer, showcased the hablon cloth where the designer is best known for. Various hablon products like scarves and miniature lansareras were also available for guests to keep as a memento from Sugbufé’s grand opening.
Sugbufé respects the value of appreciating local, supporting local and going local. “It is our mission to bring Filipino cuisine to new heights and further broaden the knowledge of people about the Philippines’ food, culture and heritage. We acknowledge that the future is far and full of uncertainties but we envisage ourselves to be recognized globally carrying with us the pride of the Philippines and the honour of being a Sugbuanon.” says Ms. Ella Saguin, the Managing Partner of Sugbufé.
