Cebu Health Execs Urge Public to Destroy Mosquito-Breeding Sites As Dengue Cases Almost Double
Cebu health officials on Tuesday urged the public to destroy mosquito-breeding places as the number of dengue cases in the province has nearly doubled compared to last year.
Cebu provincial health office chief, Dr. Rene Catan, said dengue cases recorded from January to Sept. 19 this year has already reached 4,919, compared to 2,461 cases from January to December last year.
This means there has been an increase of 2,458 cases already, he noted.
Catan said it would be impossible to eradicate mosquitoes, thus they are locating their breeding areas and are conducting misting operations.
He said they are also educating the public about the importance of having a clean household and community.
“Mosquitoes have a high survival capability. It’s not easy to eliminate mosquitoes without affecting our ecosystem,” Catan said.
Provincial health officer Nino Ismael Pastor also advised the public to be wary of storing water, as stagnant water attracts mosquitoes looking for breeding areas. (PNA) CVL/EB/EDS
