Scientists Discover New Planet Orbiting Two Suns
WASHINGTON DC, USA – Scientists announced on Monday, June 13, that astronomers discover the largest planet outside our solar system that could potentially be inhabited by people. The planet is said to be orbiting two stars.
The planet dubbed Kepler-1647 b is the size of Jupiter and has a wide orbit. The gaseous planet revolves around its two stars in 1,107 days, or approximately three Earth-years.
Planets that orbit two stars are known as circumbinary planets, and sometimes called “Tatooines”. “Tatooines” is taken from the fictional planet in the movie Star Wars.
Kepler-1647 b is far from its two stars that makes the planet habitable, San Diego State University said.
The planet is roughly the same age as the Earth and is located near the Cygnus constellation, some 3,700 light-years away from Earth.
