Soliman Leads Inauguration Of Visayas Disaster Response Center
Secretary Corazon “Dinky” Juliano-Soliman of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Wednesday led the inauguration of the Visayas Disaster Response Center (DRC) at the Pacifc Traders Compound in Barangay Casuntingan, Mandaue City.
Soliman was accompanied by Praveen Agrawal, Philippine Country Representative of the World Food Programme (WFP) and representatives from the embassies of Australia and the United Kingdom.
KC Concepcion, the Philippines National Ambassador Against Hunger, also attended the inauguration.
The Visayas DRC is a continuation of the strategic partnership between DSWD and the WFP to enhance the emergency response in the Philippines, a press statement said.
The Visayas DRC is funded by the governments of Australia and the United Kingdom.
The Visayas DRC, which has an area of 5,000 square meters, has a custom-built mechanized production system designed to produce 50,000 family food packs in a day, the statement said.
This number of food packs can feed 250,000 people for three days, it said. (PNA) FFC/EB/PR/EDS
