DENR Urges Public To Help Cushion Effects Of El Niño
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has urged the cooperation of the public to mitigate the impact of the El Niño phenomenon.
DENR regional public affairs office head Artemio Colacion said that the long dry spell has already resulted to drying of soil that can be felt mostly in rural areas. Crops needing sufficient water may die, he said.
“Everyone is also advised to keep watch over our newly planted crops to make sure they have sufficient water supply or check and list down which plants have died, such that at the end of the El Niño phenomenon, it will be replanted,” Colacion said.
DENR will also look into state universities and colleges with seedling production for support in the replanting.
Colacion added that forest patrols are likewise advised to do foot patrols around plantation areas such that a fire won’t break out in the area.
Above all, he stressed that DENR is encouraging everyone to conserve water as water scarcity is now being experienced. (PNA) FFC/PGL/JARED JOHN VITUG-OJT/CBF
