Salto Raises Funds For Youth Development In Talisay City

Animal feeds producer Pilmico gathered cockfighting and gamefowl-breeding aficionados all over the country over the weekend to raise funds to support youth development in Talisay City.

The Salto Breeders’ Benefit Sabong was held on 20 March at the Aznar Talisay Tourist Sports Complex, Talisay City, Cebu – one of the country’s premier cockfighting locations. The complex is home to the Central Visayas Breeders Association and the annual Semi-Finals of Bakbakan Stag Derby – a grand cockfighting event known worldwide for being the toughest competition in the gamefowl industry.

Salto is the gamefowl feeds brand of Pilmico.

Seventy percent of the derby proceeds were utilised in three ways: (1) rehabilitation of classroom walls and other school fixtures (2) service learning activities and, (3) purchase of computer sets and other essential school supplies for the students of Cadulawan Elementary School.

Over 600 pupils, from grades 1 – 6, benefitted from the project which aims to encourage the youth to be more engaged in their studies by providing them with fundamental tools vital to a progressive learning experience.

“This activity aims to promote and support advocacies that are geared towards youth development. And the best way to support the youth is by motivating them to go to school and learn. We hope that our service learning activities and the computer sets & refurbished school equipment we’ve provided to the students will go a long way and inspire them to want to learn more,” said Pilmico Feeds Vice President for Sales and Sales Support Norie Bermudez.

As part of its livelihood service to its customers, Salto also conducted free seminars on gamefowl nutrition and vaccination which are essential to improving farm productivity and performance.
