Davide Commends Pro-Poor Program In Dalaguete
Governor Hilario P. Davide III lauded the municipality of Dalaguete for its pro-poor program called Social Integration of the Low and Weak (SILAW).
Davide was in the town to attend the SILAW general assembly last Jan. 23 at the Dalaguete Sports and Cultural Complex. Former Senator Panfilo Lacson was also present for the occasion.
SILAW was formed to help the indigents send their kids to school and be given assistance in the area of health and sanitation, and social services, among others.
Davide said he has not heard of a similar program implemented by other local government units in the province. He stated that it conforms to his 6 key development agenda.
Lacson also praised municipal Mayor Ronald Allan Cesante for his long-term vision.
SILAW seemingly resembled the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program of the National Government.
SILAW, formed in 1999, has more than one thousand members across the town. They are families who have children aged 16 or below. Their children will be given scholarships if they enroll under the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority. Those families whose children reached over 16 years old will no longer benefit from the program.
