Cebu City Prosecutor In Police Camp Attack Out On PHP34,000 Bail
Assistant Cebu City Prosecutor Mary Ann Castro, who figured in an attack on another woman inside the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7, has been released from jail after posting a PHP34,000 bail.
State Prosecutor Simaco Labata found enough evidence to charge Castro and her six companions, four men and two women, with two counts of direct assault and malicious mischief.
They are Jonas Borces Niñez, 30; Leo Esquivel Suaso, 42; William Segundino Contamina, 27; Benjielito Hoyoa Lapera, 29; Gaudiosa Arivado Rodrigo, 53; and Hazel Niluag Mabuuyo, 39.
They also posted a surety bond Thursday.
Labata dismissed, for lack of evidence, the complaints for grave oral defamation, grave coercion, and resistance and disobedience to a person in authority.
Police said Castro allegedly led the group late Monday night in destroying the door of an office at PRO 7, where her estranged husband’s live-in partner, Maricel Raffinan Gregory, was staying.
Gregory turned herself in to the police after learning a court has issued a warrant of arrest against her in cyber libel cases Castor filed against her.
Cebu Regional Trial Court Judge Gilbert Moises has dismissed the habeas corpus petition that Castro had filed against the police.
Judge Moises ruled that the filing of the case in court validated Castro and her companions’ arrest. (PNA) LAP/EB/EDS
