Cebu Provincial Hospital Can Now Perform Major Surgeries
The Cebu provincial government-run hospital in Carcar City can now perform major surgical operations, among them, Caesarian section and appendectomy, for its residents and those of neighboring towns in southern Cebu.
Dr. Evelyn Familgan, officer-in-charge of the Cebu Provincial Hospital-Carcar, said their surgeons can also conduct hernia repair, thyroidectomy, myomectomy and modified radical mastectomy, among others.
Familgan said the provincial government sought help from the Department of Health (DOH), which funded the PHP6.4 million worth of repairs and renovation of the two-storey hospital and its support facilities.
Among those renovated was the second floor where the operating room, delivery room, newborn screening rooms, the obstetrics (OB) ward and private rooms are located.
Familgan said they have treated some 300 emergency cases, including the operations conducted last year.
She said some PHP30 million of their total income came asreimbursements from Philhealth while the rest were from paying patients.
Cebu Governor Hilario P. Davide III said health and hospital services are among his top priorities.
The provincial government has also completed the construction of the hospital’s PHP2.1-million sewage treatment plant (STP), the governor said.
The hospital has 18 doctors, including an anesthesiologist. (PNA) LAP/EB/EDS
