First Philippine Environment Summit Set In February
The theme “Greening Together, Growing Better” will permeate the 1st Philippine Environment Summit to be held on Feb 9 to 11 at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia.
The Summit will bring together environment leaders of non-government organizations and civil society, government, business, academia, church, and other sectors in celebration of advancements in environmental protection achieved through private and public initiatives. It creates an opportunity for all sectors to unite and collaborate to accelerate the drive towards national sustainable development.
President Benigno Aquino III, Luis Cardinal Tagle, former Supreme Court Justice Reynato Puno, and internationally renowned environmental activists Dr. David Suzuki and Dr. Vandana Shiva are some of the invited speakers. Leading presidential aspirants in the coming national elections will be asked to present their environmental agendas.
The Summit is co-organized by the Green Convergence — a large coalition of environmental and developmental organizations, networks, faith-based groups and individuals — with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). It will showcase programs and projects, breakthroughs and innovations that contribute to social and economic growth, and an exhibit area featuring eco-friendly products and services.
