Songgok University To Train Students In Cebu

The Cebu Provincial Government signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Songgok University last January 25 at Capitol establishing a student training program partnership in South Korea.

Governor Hilario P. Davide III sealed the deal along with the Vice-President of Songgok University, Wang Eun Sook.

Under the MOU, teachers from Songgok University will train students from the University of the Philippines (UP) and Cebu Technological University (CTU) from May to June 2016.

After the training here in the Philippines around 10-15 students will be chosen and brought to Korea for six (6) more months of training under Songgok University.

Student activities will inclue classes on how to make traditional Korean arts and crafts.

“Our nation is aiming to teach those students so they can be experts and produce their own products. In return, they can teach other Filipinos also,” said VP Wang.

Dr. Choi Hoon Young, President of the Korea Philippine Educational and Cultural Exchange Corporation (KOPEC), also disclosed that they chose UP and CTU as the recipient for the program because their target are public and state universities.

Moreover, VP Wang has assured that the university will shoulder all expenses including the accommodation and plane fare.

“On behalf of Cebu Provincial Government, I would like to thank you for choosing Cebu. I’m sure many students are interested to learn and join the program,” expressed Gov. Davide.

This is the first time that Songgok University participated in the Philippine-Korean student-training program.

Songgok University is located at Gangwon-do, South Korea, just two hours away from Seoul.
