Policemen Killed in Iraqi Attacks
At least 10 policemen have been killed in a police station attack in Rawah, northwest of Baghdad, authorities say.
Reports claim unidentified gunmen carried out the attack.
According to the head of the area’s local council, Qais al-Rawi, the gunmen killed and injured several police officers in the station. The gunmen are also reported to have started a fire in an army position.
Conflict between the Iraq government, Shia Muslim and the Sunni Muslims have been rising in the recent months.
Authorities have blamed Sunni militants for the recent attacks in the Anbar province.
The deadly attacks did not stop despite appeals for peace after the bombings in Sunni Muslim areas around Baghdad claimed the lives of at least 60 people last Friday.
Reports claim the Iraqi government has taken due action, such as freeing prisoners and increasing salaries of Sunni anti-al-Queda fighters. However, there are still ongoing protests against Maliki’s government.
