PRO 7 to Deploy 2,000 Cops in Second Round of APEC meets in Oct. 8-14
(PNA) — The Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 will deploy some 2,000 policemen during the second set of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit meetings in Cebu from October 8 to 14, an official said.
Senior Superintendent Rey Lyndon Lawas, a deputy director of PRO 7, said the number of security personnel will be lesser than the more than 3,000 policemen fielded during the first set of meetings from Aug. 22 to Sept. 11.
The first set of meetings concluded without any major security hitches and incidents, Lawas said.
The meetings from Oct. 8 to 14 will be held at the Radisson Blu hotel in Cebu City and Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa in Lapu-Lapu City.
Lawas said the police will again secure the venues and the hotels where the delegates will stay.
Lawas said traffic re-routing plans will also be implemented during the APEC meetings.
He said the police will also prepare for the visit of President Benigno C. Aquino III, who is expected to attend one of the gatherings of the ministers of the 21-member economies.
He said the police’s heightened security status will be declared five days before the first day of the meetings that will start on Oct. 8. (PNA) LAP/EB/EDS
