Tuguegarao City, Cagayan (PIA) – – Amid the prevalence of food poisoning in different parts of the country, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) region 2 is set to conduct food safety training to local food manufacturers, caterers and product developers.

Engr. Sancho Mabborang, OIC-regional director, said the provincial science and technology offices are encouraged to conduct the series of trainings to contain possible cases of food intoxications.

“We hear a lot of food poisoning issues nationwide. We can avoid this if we ensure enough training with food handlers and servers,” Mabborang said during the launching of a DOST assisted food product.

The right time and proper temperature in cooking foods as well as proper storage and safe packaging practices should to be followed to the letter ensure no toxic materials or chemicals may be introduced.

Mabborang also urged other sectors and agencies concerned to conduct inspections to food stalls, canteens, restaurants and other food outlets to look if the food available are safe and in proper perspectives.

“One wrong move may lead to mass casualties. That is why we have to capacitate our partners to avoid further poisoning, especially in public places and crowded areas,” Mabborang added.

This city has encountered two major food intoxication cases in the past few years which resulted in the death of two grade school pupils. (ALM/OTB/PIA 2-Cagayan)
