‘Terrorism, Extremism Major Threats to World Peace’
Tehran (PNA/IRNA) — Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia and Pacific Affairs Ebrahim Rahimpoor said terrorism and extremism are the main threats to peace and security in the world, specially in Asia.
Rahimpoor was addressing a meeting of Asian and African foreign ministers held in Jakarta, Indonesia on Tuesday. The meeting is a prelude to a summit conference to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Bandung Conference in 1955 which laid the foundation stone for Non-Aligned Movement.
Ebrahimpoor emphasized the necessity of further cooperation among the countries and promotion of tolerance, pluralism, and respect for various ideas.
The ministerial meeting began on Monday with a speech given by Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marcudi.
Ebrahimpoor also referred to challenges that the world faces, saying poverty, injustice, adverse effects of world economic recession, and developed countries’ inattention to the demands of developing countries on making important decisions are among these challenges.
34 heads of state and government, as well as representatives from 77 countries have confirmed attendance at the 60th anniversary of the Asia Africa Conference, set to be held in Jakarta and Bandung from April 19 to April 24.
Among the heads of states and governments who are confirmed include Brunei Darussalam, China, Iran, Jordan, Madagascar, Malawi, and Swaziland, according to the Indonesian Foreign Ministry.
The Asia Africa Conference 60th anniversary commemoration (AACC) events kicked off on Sunday, with a meeting between high-level delegates in Jakarta, followed by preparatory ministerial meetings on Monday. The Asia-Africa Business Summit is scheduled for April 21 to April 22.
