OWWA-7 Welcomes New Scholars for 2015-2016

(PIA 7) — The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA-7) announces the release of the examination result for the Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP).

OWWA-7 labor communications officer, Eda Marie Enclonar, bared the EDSP offers financial assistance to qualified dependents of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who are active OWWA members and who wish to enroll in any four to five year baccalaureate courses.

Of the 329 applicants from Central Visayas, 14 OFW dependents made it to the top 200 in the EDSP national qualifying examination conducted simultaneously nationwide on September 21, 2014 by the Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI), according to OWWA-7 official.

The 14 OFW dependent passerss are: Amada, Azel Balbon, Asdillo, Raul Jr. Alam-alam, Cachila, Kaylene Ann Villaroya, Calano, Lindberge Sevilla, Calope, Karlee Christine Almerol, Dabalos, Arell Anne Cortez, Dinampo, Mary Dorothy Dumancas, Dizon, Meg Elnasin, Dolotina, Gio Dean Adlaon, Lagroma, Nina Lynn Benrales, Lasola, Geniviarie Cornelia, Matig-a, Kendra Maxine Cilocilo, Rayco, Ysabelle Kate Delearna, and Tan, Alyssa Zena Alba.

Enclonar said, “of the 14 passers that qualified for OWWA’s Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP) starting school year 2015-2016, seven are from Cebu, four from Bohol and three from Negros Oriental.”

The daughter of an OFW working in Jakarta, Indonesia, Azel Balbon Amada of Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental landed 4th place in the national qualifying exam, according to Enclonar.

“OWWA-7 ranked 5th with the most number of passers among the 17 regions and four overseas posts,” said the OWWA-7 official.

Qualified scholars are entitled to a financial assistance amounting to P60,000/year or P30,000 per semester that will cover the tuition and other academic-related expenses which shall be released on a semestral basis.

Enclonar said that the complete list of passers can be viewed at their official website, www.owwa.gov.ph.

“Likewise, the result of the qualifying exam for the six applicants in region 7 of the Congressional Migrant Workers Scholarship Program (CMWSP) was also released, but nobody made it,” said Enclonar.

CMWSP is a separate scholarship program of OWWA that offers financial assistance to dependents of either active or inactive OFWs who intends to enroll in courses under the priority fields of Science and Technology. (mbcn/jsme/PIA7-Cebu)
