CCPO to Deploy 100 Cops to Bantayan Island to Secure Tourists
The Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) will deploy more than 100 police officers to secure tourists in Bantayan Island during the Holy Week.
Supt. Renato Malazarte, CPPO deputy director for administration, said the additional police officers will be deployed starting next week to augment the police force in the island.
Tourists, both local and foreign, usually flock during the Holy Week to Bantayan Island, which consists of the municipalities of Bantayan, Madridejos and Sta. Fe.
CPPO Director Senior Supt. Noel Gillamac said the augmentation force was tapped from different police stations in the province.
He said they organized the Task Force Semana Santa to provide security to local and foreign tourists visiting Bantayan Island and other tourist spots in Cebu this Holy Week.
“There will be lots of tourists. That’s why we should focus our security there,” said Gillamac.
“We hope the upcoming Holy Week will be peaceful,” he said.
Gillamac said any Lenten-related activities should be kept off the road to avoid creating heavy traffic.
Gillamac said they will monitor resorts throughout the province to prevent anybody from staging lewd shows, like bikini opens.
These shows are prohibited by an ordinance passed by the Cebu Provincial Board. (PNA) LAP/EB
