Tabunok Public Market Reopens after Elections
Amid reports that the promise to re-open Tabunok Public Market is just a political strategy, district Rep. Eduardo Gullas assured that it is going to happen. But as to when, Gullas said it will be after the elections.
“We can’t just open it right away without checking first if everything is still in order inside the market. Who knows, the place may no longer be suitable for public use,” said Gullas. He said he will have the Talisay City Engineering office to check the entire place to see what areas need repair, among others, before letting the public use it again.
Gullas, who is running for mayor in Talisay City, was criticized by the opposition for the sudden change of heart. It was Gullas in 2004 , when he was city mayor, who built the Lagtang Public Market, where the vendors from Tabunok are now selling their products after they were transferred there in 2011. Gullas earlier reasoned that the transfer back to the old market was after he heard appeals from vendors who claim they are still losing money at the new market.
The plan to re-open Tabunok Public Market came after its adjacent terminal was allowed for use again by tricycle and trisikad drivers.
