Capitol Eyes Minglanilla Lot for Employees
The Cebu Provincial Government is eyeing an idle province-owned lot in Barangay Tunghaan, Minglanilla town for a housing project intended for its employees.
The lot, with a total area of 8.4 hectares, was originally allotted for relocation of informal settlers occupying two Capitol-owned lots in Cebu City, shared Cebu Provincial Real Estate Administrator Paul Entera.
Around 314 families occupying province-owned lot in Sudlon, Barangay Lahug and some 360 families in Archbishop Reyes Avenue were to be relocated in Tunghaan, said Entera.
However, only 72 families from Sudlon and 28 families in Archbishop Reyes Ave. took heed of Capitol’s relocation request despite informing them through house-to-house visits.
In 2007, Capitol sealed a memorandum of agreement with Gawad Kalinga (GK) for the implementation of the housing project. However, the agreement is now expired, said Entera.
He further added that from the target 700 families, only 98 houses were built occupying 1.09 hectares of the lot.
“When the contract (with GK) expired, the Province decided to have a different program for the rem aining 7.3 hectare area of the Minglanilla lot,” said Provincial General Services officer-in-charge Jone Seigfred Sepe.
Sepe said survey works in the lot are targeted to be finished by June this year so Governor Hilario P. Davide III can already make the final decision.
“We will still come up with guidelines. We can adopt some of the guidelines of the previous housing projects for Capitol employees. This will include payment scheme, qualified beneficiaries and participating financial institution, among others,” explained Sepe.
Capitol’s previous housing projects for employees are the Kalunasan Project in Barangay Kalunasan and the Sudlon Project in Barangay Lahug.
The Government Service and Insurance System assisted the beneficiaries of Kalunasan Project financially while the lot was owned by the Province.
