Dengue Cases in CV Rise By 105%
Despite the heat, Central Visayas’ dengue cases doubled in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period last year.
Based on the date of the Department of Heath 7 (DOH-7), there were 4,482 cases from January 1 to April 13 this year, as opposed to last year’s 2,177 in the same months. DOH-7’s Regional Epidemiological Surveillance Unit also noted 10 fatalities from dengue this year, while there were 18 last year.
As per DOH-7 record, Cebu City has the highest cases with 723 cases (one death), while Dumaguete City comes next at 433. Meanwhile, Lapu-Lapu City has 283 cases and Sibulan in Negros Oriental with 187 cases.
The Health Department now considers dengue a year-round threat, even on hot season, unlike in the past years where it only used to threaten the public health on rainy days.
