Capitol Uses ‘Infoboard’ for Disaster Preparedness
The Provincial Capitol is enhancing its disaster-preparedness system through the use of an internet-based communications tool.
Last week, Smart Communications presented to Gov. Hilario Davide III this “infoboard” communications system, which can reportedly help the province responds to local government units during disasters and emergency situations.
According to the statement released by the Cebu-Public Information Office, this tool “would speed up the delivery of processed emergency advisories to its constituents from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).”
Davide said LGUs must also get this tool for better communications when all systems go down especially during disasters like what happened in last year’s Yolanda and the 7.2-magnitude earthquake.
“Our experience with typhoon Yolanda and the earthquake last year has taught us how very important communication really is. The provincial government is very happy with this partnership and we thank Smart for providing us with this capability,” Davide said.
This infoboard enables the PDRRMO to translate advisories from the weather bureaus to be sent through the internet to its local counterparts in the LGU level. The quick advisory will then enable LGUs to prepare for the incoming disaster.
This system is already being used in Albay and Southern Leyte.
