These Innovative Smart Shoes Will Guide You Around Using Vibrations
Indian wearable startup Ducere Tech has developed smart shoes called Lechal that can give the wearer directions without needing to look at a smartphone.
According to the company, the shoes can connect to Google Maps and guide you around with vibrating alerts. The right or left shoe then buzzes depending on which direction the user should turn – a feature that could help people with visual impairments.
In addition to providing directions, the shoes also measure distance traveled and calories burned, giving you the information on your smartphone through an accompanying app. The app connects via Bluetooth to a module that sits into the back of the shoe.
“The shoes are a natural extension of the human body,” Krispian Lawrence co-founder and chief executive of Ducere Technologies told the Wall Street Journal. “You will leave your house without your watch or wristband, but you will never leave your house without your shoes.”
The shoes are available in red or black and will be priced between $100 and $150, based on whether the customer is ordering the shoes or the insoles.
The package – footwear, the app and a charger can be pre-ordered on the product’s website, with the first batch shipping out in March.
