Abu Sayyaf Attack Kills 16 in Sulu
Manila (PNA) — Sixteen civilians were reported killed following an Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) ambush at Lower Lumapid, Talipao town, Sulu Monday morning.
Initial reports said the incident took place around 3:30 a.m.
2nd Marine Brigade commander Brig. Gen. Martin Pinto said the attack could be “Rido” (clan war) related.
The victims were aboard two “Tamaraw” type vans where fired upon.
He added that some teenagers were among the fatalities.
Pursuit operations are now ongoing even as the motive for the attack is still being determined.
Meanwhile, military sources said the ASG attack was headed by Idang Susukan and Sibih Pisih.
The two headed a group of 50 ASG brigands who attacked 40 civilians and 10 barangay police action team members.
Ten of those killed were male while six were female. Thirteen others, including children, were reported wounded in the attack. (PNA)
