Davide to Contractors: Sue Capitol
Admitting that he will not pay the contractors who had collectibles with the Capitol, Governor Hilario Davide III, instead advised them to file charges against the Capitol for their claims.
“We want things to be done correctly, take us to court if they have valid claims…that’s their prerogative. Kiha sila, if the courts say they should be paid, then we will accede,” Davide said.
Davide said there is at least one contractor who approached him to collect the payment. But Davide said he turned it down, saying his administration will not settle payables over contracts that did not have the nod of the Provincial Board (PB).
The Commission on Audit had directed the province to collect at least P540 million of funds disbursed to “illegal” infrastructure projects by the previous administration, saying these bypassed the PB.
Davide sets the blame for this lapse to former governor and now third district Rep. Gwen Garcia.
“That was my position even last year nga kining mga contracts entered into without the approval of the Provincial Board, dili nato mabayran ang contractors. They may have to go to the court to demand payment,” said Davide in an interview.
