Hunat Sugbu Lauds Successful Tri Bantayan
The 2nd Hunat Sugbu Triathlon held at Beach Montemar, Bantayan Island on Saturday has played a remarkable event that shows a greater response in helping the ‘Bantayanons’ rise from the aftermath of Bagyong (Typhoon) Yolanda.
Through a fun-filled triathlon (swimming, biking and running), Parklane Hotel- in partnership with the Municipality of Bantayan- has successfully spearheaded an event that promotes camaraderie, and deep support to our fellowmen, specifically those in dire need. The event also aims to give Bantayanons an alternative livelihood.
Aside from that, tri Bantayan has also lifted the spirit of Bantayanons—giving them hope to start again after the typhoon that badly affected northern Cebu on November 2013. They also wanted to promote sports tourism in Cebu, most especially in Bantayan Island, and attempts to bring back the once “one of most visited tourist spots in the country”.

Nevertheless, the cause for the typhoon victims in Bantayan will never be successful without the full participation of the triathletes who willingly joined the triathlon.
The proceeds gathered from the participants’ registration fees will go directly to the Municipality. The money will not be given directly to the victims, but it will be used to finance their livelihood program.
This program involves giving Bantayanons some fishing boat to help them sustain their daily needs. As the century old saying goes: “Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day; show him how to catch fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.”

As envisioned by Parklane and Bantayan Mayor Christopher Ian Escario, helping the Bantayanons would be at its best when you help provide the means and opportunity for them to work rather than give them a one-off handout.
