DepEd 7 Maintains June as School Opening
The regional office of the Department of Education (DepEd) here in Cebu City has announced that school year will start on the month of June.
According to DepEd-7 Regional Director Dr. Carmelita Dulangon, they have not received any order from their higher headquarters in Manila to change the school opening.
Dulangon said DepEd national officials have not seen any substantial reasons to change the school opening to the month of October unlike what other universities and colleges are now doing.
Earlier, the University of the Philippines(UP) and other Manila colleges have aggressively informed the public that starting this year they will change their school openings to September and October.
The main reason behind this is their compliance with the ASEAN economic integration on 2015.
They further said that among the countries in the Southeast Asia, only the Philippines have maintained the June school opening which means that Filipinos are apparently behind to their ASEAN counterparts as far as education is concerned.
But Dulangon has said that aside from being successful in the implementation of their early enrollment of day care and first grade enrollees last month, they have seen no reasons to change the school opening system.
Meanwhile, Dulangon reiterated her call to all public schools in the region to observe simple graduation exercises within this month of March.
She also urged parents to report to her office if they will be forced to pay any graduation fees just to let their children pass during the graduation rites with an assurance to act immediately on this matter.
