PNP Intensifies ‘Loose Firearms’ Campaign
The Regional Police Office(PRO) 7 yesterday assured to intensify their on – going campaign against loose firearms in the region.
Police Chief Supt. Danilo S. Constantino, PRO7 chief, made the assurance during the 71st Talakayan sa Isyung Pulis (TSIP) sa PRO7 at the Camp Sergio Osmeña Sr. Headquarters along Osmeña Blvd. Cebu City.
Constantino said that the volume of crime incidents in the whole Central Visayas for the first two months of 2014 is not increasing compared to the same period last year, 2013.
It was found out that loose firearms have contributed a lot to the number of crimes in the region last year. That is why for this year, Constantino has promised that they will have to maintain the same target as of last year on the number of loose firearms to be confiscated from the illegal gun holders this year.
Last year they have able to confiscate a total of around 1,600 loose firearms out from the 1,900 target, Constantino said.
But he did not elaborate regarding the number of individuals who owned the confiscated loose firearms that were arrested and faced charges in court on the said period.
With this in mind, Constantino admitted that this is a big challenge he passed to all station commanders and provincial police chiefs in the four provinces of Region 7 such as Bohol, Negros Oriental, Siquijor and Cebu.
The PRO7 chief also believe that coping the target, crime incidents may also lessen in all provinces of Central Visayas or on the entire country as well.
Loose firearms are usually found as being used by criminals on any instances of killing every now and then.
