Talisay, Minglanilla Vulnerable to Storm Surge

Published

on

Having a wide and shallow seabed, Talisay City and Minglanilla are vulnerable to storm surge, according to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) 7.

Eddie Llamedo, DENR 7 spokesperson, said this new information will be tackled in the next review of the geohazards mapping in Metro Cebu, of which results will be forwarded to concerned local government units for their action. Llamedo said it is then the LGUs’ responsibility to act on the matter to prevent the similar incident in Leyte wherein at least 5,000 died because of a super typhoon-triggered storm surge

Llamedo explained a storm surge is the rise of seawater following non-stop strong winds. He said it often happens in areas where seabeds areas shallow and the beachfront is wide.
